Get ready to rock, get ready to roll, let's learn about hip hop, here we gooo! Your students will have the opportunity to explore the four main elements of hip hop, create some graffiti, and participate in an epic rap battle!
This presentation comes jam packed with videos, audio clips, and two interactive activities I hope your students will enjoy as much as mine did! There are a couple of resources slides at the very end, and you will definitely want to check the speaker notes section of slides for important info whenever you see this caution symbol in the top right: ⚠️. Included in the speaker notes are example discussion questions, song titles, and suggestions regarding the activities. (There's also an important note about the lyrical content of the video "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang near the beginning of the presentation.) Speaking of which, although I designed these activities so that students could be broken into two teams and use breakout rooms, you will probably have to modify them slightly if you are the only person leading everything and are unable to use breakout rooms. Finally, this presentation is only intended to give a BRIEF overview of the genre—you could spend an entire music class on hip hop music and culture! As always, please feel free to add or take away (or even rearrange the order of the material) as much as you need to in order to make this presentation the most beneficial for your students.
This presentation is 100% FREE to download! If you find this to be a successful presentation with your students and would like to give back, however, donations via Venmo (Danielle-Keaton) or Cashapp (dkeaton94) are very much appreciated! Finally, if you would like to share with others, please direct them to my website, Facebook, or Instagram instead of sharing your copy of the presentation directly. Thanks so much for checking it out!
